  2. Entries are subject to the general rules.
  3. All purebred and crossbred steers must be of beef breeds only. Breeds of steers must be on the entry blanks. Steers will show in the following divisions: American, British, and Exotic.
  4. 4. Only steers weighing at least 1000 lbs. but not more than 1,400 lbs. will be shown as market steers. Only steers eligible to show will be eligible to be sold at the floor price.
    1. Steers not weighing a minimum of 1000 lbs. are eligible for the Prospect Steer Show. See rule #4 in the Prospect Steer rules.
  5. Steers will be put into classes by division and weight by the Superintendent after weigh-in on Thursday, Mar 25.
    Steer classes will be broken at the discretion of the Superintendent into as many classes as needed, with the classes divided as equally as possible
  6. All steers will have stall assignments assigned by the Superintendent.
  7. All steers must be halter broken and dehorned. The Division Superintendent or his assistants have the right to remove an unruly calf from the show ring. The decision to do so will be left up to the discretion of the Division Superintendent.
  8. Steers will be slick-sheared. All steers will be clipped to have no more than ¼” of hair on any prt of the animal’s body upon arrival at fairgrounds. The only exception will be the tail switch. The switch may be ratted and balled or may be bobbed off. Steers will be checked at the time of weigh-in for conformity of the ¼“ of hair. No clipping on steers (electrical or manual) will be allowed once the steers are on the grounds at the DCLA Youth Fair. All steers found in violation of this rule will be eliminated from competition and removed from the grounds. The exhibitor will also be eliminated from competition for the current show in the steer division.
  9. Sale order will be picked on a percentage basis of each breed/ class not to exceed a total of 26 Market Steers. Percentages from each class will be posted before the market steer show begins. This is a terminal show for the Grand and Reserve Grand Champion Market Steer and they will be slaughtered.
  10. Overall Grand and Reserve Champion Market Steers and the top showmanship winners will receive belt buckles.
  11. The Overall Grand and Reserve Champion steers MUST enter the Carcass Contest. This is a terminal show for Grand and Reserve Grand Champion market steers, and they must be slaughtered.
  12. All exhibitors will be allowed to show for showmanship.

    Intermediates — 12 to 14
    Seniors — 15 and older as of Aug 31, 2005
